Elephants have been taught to cut and thrust with a kind of similar carried in the trunk and it was formerly usual for them to be sent into battle, covered with armour and bearing towers on ther backs which contained warriors. Elephants will live for a hundred years; some to almost two hundred. An order of the elephant was instituted in Denmark by King Frederick II (1559-1588). The badge was a collar of elephants towered having at the end the picture of the Virgin Mary.
